More Awards and New Online Commercial

Well we've won 2 more awards! A Platinum Pixie for our special effects, 3D animation, and motion graphics done for the Lucas Auto Care web commercial and a Gold Pixie for our new Deep Down Design Studios web commercial. DDDS wins so many awards we had to grow more arms to hold them!

I thought we should get back into the awards programs this year so I picked some of the most prestigious... and guess what? We won a bunch of awards for our animation, website and special effects work! The Telly award itself (man with wings) is made by the same people that do the Oscars and is a really big deal in our world. The others are Summit Awards and an Aegis. Pictured with me on my left side is my right-hand man Gabriel Flores who is an amazing "any" media artist and deserves much credit for these awards.

Graphics Completed for New Deep Down, Inc. 1,000-4,500 MT Carousels

Deep Down has designed a fully scalable Carousel system that's rocking the world of umbilical and cable storage and deployment. Carousels can be configured to handle from 1,000 MT all the way up to an amazing 4,500 MT. Deep Down was honored at OTC 2011 as the Carousel was the “Innovation Winner” for the ASME Woelfel Best Engineering Achievement Award from the International Petroleum Technology Institute. A 3,400 MT Carousel is being assembled on-site right now at Core Industries facilities in Theodore, Alabama. This is pretty exciting for the company as a whole and this is just the beginning! Our new website is different from anything you've ever seen. It's a mini-sub adventure beneath the sea with tropical fish, creepy critters like the Roboctopus, and many hidden buttons and interactions. Quest Offshore History Presentation

We did this for Quest Offshore to show the history of tradeshows they have produced over the years. Each section of the animation displays themes, sponsors, pictures and graphics from the show as well as holographic images of the hosting country's most prominent cultural icon. Deep Down Bend Stiffener Latcher Animation

This is a cool piece of equipment that makes things easier when connecting/disconnecting risers with bend stiffeners to FPSOs and other production vessels and platforms. We made an animation of it to show how simple the operation is so check it out on our YouTube channel.

Deep Down Design Studios Creates Commercial for Lucas Auto Care

This is a commercial we did for Lucas Auto Care completely in house, with our own equipment and people. We created all the special effects including the smoke which was a military smoke bomb we filmed on a black background then keyed out the black. I wrote, directed, starred-in (yes that's me in the Ferrari), filmed, photographed, animated, keyed, created special effects, did the voiceover and recording and came up with the concept for the commercial. Our lead animator Gabe created additional special effects, animations, keying, color corection, sound effects, assisted in filming and did the final post-production. This was a lot of fun and it turned out great. The client was beyond happy and excited about it and watched it about 20 times in a row and was calling everybody into his office to see it. Deep Down Design Studios Produces Animation for Dateline NBC and The Discovery Channel

Being the most experienced industrial 3D animation firm in the world has it's advantages and we were honored to be contacted by The Discovery Channel regarding animations of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy. They told us our work was the best they've seen on the entire Internet and wanted us for the job. We of course were happy to help and produced several animations that will air on Thursday June 10th in a special documentary.

Also, NBC got back in touch with us to do more work for them and we produced 2 animations of blowout scenarios (controlled and uncontrolled) for Dateline NBC that airs tonight Friday June 4th at 8:00 Central time.

CETCO 3D Modeling and Images Project

CETCO came to us asking for some highly detailed realistic models and images of their Super Separator, 15K Line Heater, and 100 and 200 bbl Tanks so we happily obliged. Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Recovery - Containment Box Animation

Here is an animation we did of the lowering of the massive 4 story oil containment box that was an attempt to siphon off up to 85% of the leaking oil that resulted from when the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded and sank in the Gulf of Mexico. Frozen hydrates and ice crystals blocked the pipe leading to the surface so they aborted and moved it about 200 meters away. A new smaller dome is the next attempt. This is our artistic rendition concept of what happened and may not be an exact depiction of the actual event.

NBC Chooses Deep Down Design Studios for ROV Model and Animation for Coverage of Deepwater Horizon Rig Tragedy

We would like to announce that Deep Down Design Studios was chosen by NBC to provide an animation and 3D model of an ROV for use in their coverage of the Deepwater Horizon rig tragedy on the national nightly news and the Today Show. We may also be providing further animations for this and other happenings around the world. We will receive full credit in each broadcast as well as wherever they post it on the Internet giving us nationwide and worldwide exposure.

Hornbeck MPSV370 Centerline Ship 3D Model

Hornbeck Offshore comissioned us to build an ultra detailed 3D model of their MPSV370 Centerline ship and to animate it in 10 different situations. Yeah it's been a while but a lot has happened and we've been pretty busy. From knee surgery to new projects and clients we've got it going on. Things are getting back to normal for me now as I am starting to walk again and we're ready for a new year packed full of projects. We'll be doing updates more often here on the blog and having fun as usual doing our jobs!

Flash, He'll Save Every One of Us

The movie Flash Gordon was one of my favorites back in 1980 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080745/). Not the flashiest special effects but they did them in a way that really fit the feel of the movie. Flash forward to today and when you hear the word flash you usually think flash drive (aka USB drive, pen drive, jump drive and the list goes on). In gearing up for our flashy new marketing campaign we are putting the latest DDDS presentation on these flash drives to hand out at trade shows and to potential clients. So much easier than CDs and flashier too!

Go ROVing

We do a lot of subsea animations that require a remote operated vehicle (ROV) and we just created a new 3D model of one for an animation project we're working on. These things can articulate fairly well and accomplish work in depths beyond where no human should go in just a wet suit. Teapots Ahoy!

We've been working on some ocean scenes for offshore animation projects. Water is one of the most difficult things to make look real especially when animated. Realism adds some WOW factor to animations and graphics and is time consuming to achieve but is worth it when you see the end result. The teapots, by the way, are a native object inside our 3D software 3DS MAX and can be created by simply clicking on the screen and dragging to size. We all pay homage to the teapots in our testing process as they have been a part of 3DS MAX since release 1 for Windows 3.1 many moons ago (I've been using it since it was 3D Studio DOS version 2 back in 1990 on a 286 - 8MHz computer - no giga there that's megahertz as in mega slow!).

We're all worried about the frumpy economy right? In times like this it's smart to tighten the belt at home and in business. I certainly have. But what about sales & marketing? Should it be cut too? Would you clamp the main arteries of your heart?! Sales & marketing are the heart and lifeblood of any business growth and it would be absolutely crazy to cut back. Go against the flow of market fear and snag those clients other companies might be ignoring because of their own budget cuts. Arm yourself with the best materials and grow in a time of constriction. Let us help you even if you start small. We'll work with you to make you look better than the competition. Instead of a simple brochure, you can email your client an interactive presentation with animation, graphics and a short purposeful statement of why you're the best. If you had a cluttered brochure with 12 paragraphs of boring text versus a multimedia masterpiece in front of you, which company would automatically seem to be the best. To be the best you have to look the best. Take our new presentation for instance (see screenshots below and download it from the link at the top right of the page). Would you be more interested in viewing it or a wordy brochure? Get your product or service in front of people and have them actually enjoy learning why they should buy from you.
